2/7/2024 0 Comments Redline club sold out![]() ![]() HWC was an immersive experience right of the gate with a whole Hot Wheels collecting community of collectors posting news and information, and sharing their collections, 24 hours a day via the site’s forums. Right place, right time – just like when hunting Hot Wheels at retail. Since you had to be 18 to join this adult collector site, it seemed fitting. On (HWC) launched – only a couple of weeks after I turned 18. However, a new “collector” site was teased and this had me intrigued. I had visited periodically thinking it would help me in my growing thirst for knowledge, but it was mainly geared towards showing only some of the retail products. My world of Hot Wheels collecting went from collecting cars locally at retail and at toy shows to understanding the global appeal of Hot Wheels. The segment series were a cool way to organize the themes of the vehicles, and the hunt was on to complete!ĭuring this time, the internet – yes, “the internet” – found its way into homes and collectors began buying/selling/trading online. As I continued to grow, I played less and collected more, and my collection of Hot Wheels expanded from my showroom shelf to leaving the vehicles on their original blister cards, and using thumbtacks to pin them to my wall. As my other Hot Wheels would become “played with”, my favorite cars would still be there sitting in mint condition, on a shelf in my bedroom. Those were my “showroom cars”, mimicking the vehicles you would see in the showroom of your local dealership. For a young collector who was a pre-teen, transitioning from a child who played with Hot Wheels to an adolescent who began going to car shows and seeing pristine cars side-by-side, a collection began.Īt first, I had Hot Wheels that I wouldn’t play with. A major shift in collecting Hot Wheels came in 1995: the introduction of the segment series in basics – commonly referred to as the “mainline” by collectors.
